Ah, when the bride and groom had matching hairstyles 😂 brings back MANY memories 💜
Was that Glenda Jackson 😂❤
Hope they made it on through ❤
I remember the hats!!!
I was a 9 Yr old bridesmaid in 1977 .had an angel sleeved dress.
What an incredible bit of soldiering
Where was the kids sports day held? I can't seem to work it out.
I think it was at Clough Hall School or Reginald Mitchell Primary.
Hi we are thinking to go around the same time June/July for our wedding anniversary can you tell me how the weather was for your stay?
Hi, the weather was outstanding. However, this is low season and it can change quickly. If it rains, you may either be overnight or worst case a couple of days. Ignore all the weather forecasts for Male as they never reflect the weather in the atolls. Hopefully Komandoo have sorted their management issues out as the place was getting tired and unorganised. Komandoo is overpriced and if we had a choice, we would go to Meeru instead.
Not a shaving stick but solid fuel tablets like our hexamine tablets, the nearby razor is a red herring.
I was the same age as some of those lads and can call many friend, but how a 17 year old can do what they did, defies me even to this day.
Terrific video quality. How about sharing information regarding source, resolution, software, etc?
Hi Larry, these films were professionally restored and converted by both a company in Cheshire and the British Film Institute. All of the films are from my personal 8mm archive built up over the years from my Grandfather and Father. This particular reel is from a family wedding held in North Staffordshire.
Band is called " the market noise" with Hernan Livoso on didgeridoo
Reminds me of being a bridesmaid in 1972 when I was 8.
Reminds me of looking at my mums wedding pictures she married my dad December 1975
Hi . How does this island compare to Meeru , we’ve just come back from there and watched your Meeru video several times before we went . We loved Meeru and are struggling to choose other islands other than Meeru now x
Hi Julie, we prefer Meeru to be honest. Komandoo is not worth paying a premium for. The food is limited due to its size and its a little tired as well. We would go back to Meeru in a heartbeat, good size, variety and it feels more like home.
@@swordfishradio thanks for your reply . I had kind of already guessed you might say that . Meeru is just so special . This island just looks a bit bland in comparison x
Amazing, thank you for sharing
Thank you! Cheers!
In 1963 my sister among her wedding presents were 6 salt and pepper sets. How times have changed.
What a splendid bit of video, thank you! I’m currently reading James O’Connell’s book “Three Days in June”, which is laden with personal testimony and detail but seeing some of this position “close up”, really drives home the difficulties faced by 3 Para on that horrendous night? Many years ago, a member of the Regiment wrote in a memorial book at Arnhem, to the veterans and fallen “You set the standard”! Well, I don’t think that having watched this, that anybody could ever say, that that “standard” wasn’t “met”, or equalled.....it beggars belief that 3 Para actually “achieved the aim” at all, given the nature of the terrain and natural features and it vindicates the spirit in which the Regiment trains its young men, that this battle was the success that it was! I had a friend who served in 2 Para and who had battled away at Goose Green and Wireless Ridge, a gentle giant of a fella. Like the rest of you, an iron fist covered in colourful quilt.....
Hi Martin, it's Neil speakman from Everest road. Do you remember me? Your dad loved next door to me when he came back to the uk
Yes Neil how can I forget our legendary laughs with you and Ogie (what happened to him) ? Lost Dad 4 weeks after this video so it's great to of captured it.
@@swordfishradio oggie lost the plot really badly. It was a real shame to see him decline 😕. Your dad moved to silverdale didn't he, he was a good bloke. I remember your my mum taking me across the to your house when I'd thrown my dad's hedge clipper's through my foot 🤣. I think you know my work mate, Dave leese from Congleton? He stays he used to know you back in the day.
@@swordfishradio PS I showed my folks your videos of your family. Your mum used to go to school with my mum
I found this so sad - All the expertise and craftsmanship never to be passed on - 6 towns with such an amazing history and heritage more or less lost forever 😢
😢Dirty places. My father was a kiln manager. Up to his knees in white dust. Died of lung disease as also did his sister who worked on the pots
Big Alf's Last. Wow. A quick search reveals Big Alf Clough to be the fire man on the day. Please tell me this particular kiln is still standing. When the pestilence finally clears I hope to make it up to these towns and take in whatever is left to see.
Mick, the factory closed suddenly a few years ago now but I believe the ovens are still standing. No bottle ovens are allowed to be destroyed now as they all have preservation orders on them. Sadly some in the city are in really poor condition and may well collapse anyway. The best preserved are at Gladstone and are truly amazing! As there were so many years ago (over 2000), occasionally old footings still get discovered when digging car parks and the like. Stoke is a city saturated in pottery quite literally.
I went to Gladstone Pottery Museum yesterday. Can’t wait to go back with more leisure to look at the abandoned Victorian buildings and remnants of the pottery industry. Incredible!
@@alisonfayers-kerr9089 Thanks for you comments. Stoke used to be full of old Victorian Potteries but sadly not many survive today. I used to work in one of the largest in Tunstall (WH Grindley / Woodland Pottery). It was huge, multiple floors and underground as well. Its now sadly completely gone and replace by Tunstall Asda!
I have watched a few documentaries about the Falklands land battles. But your video in daylight shows the task 3 Para had to take Longdon. The steep terrain, the crags, darkness, extreme cold were all their enemy without even mentioning hundreds of Argentinans who had been dug in for weeks and had the advantage of the high ground. I have total respect for the men of 3 Para and what they achieved. What really shocked me was how young some of those who died were. Some were as young as 17/18.
Thanks. It was Summer time when I filmed these videos so the weather was great albeit very windy. Temperatures were around 16C on most of the days. The battle was in the early stages of Winter with biting Antarctic winds, sharp frosts and snow. Agreed, a very tough battle.

Imagine ! YHON LENON
Does anyone know the name of the song at the start?
The song is called "The Final Firing" and was played by "His Worship and the Pig". The full album is on the following link daveboulton.bandcamp.com/album/china-town
Great series when it was on
Awesome film. What a shame it's gone and not done anymore. The proper way with coal!
No food in the entire video... Did you eat anything?????
Obviously, but it was so so basic and tasteless there was little point filming it. Its a very average island with even less customer service. Some like it, some don't
Brilliant, as always
Utrinque paratus
No pinic
Brilliant
Thanks for uploading this, very interesting. GOB BLESS ALL WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES.
Wondering what the year is - looks mid 70s. 1975 perhaps?
I think it may have been late 70s but not 100 percent sure. The lady getting married is not that much older than myself and thats kinda what Im basing this on.
Looks like 74 to 76.
Have the bastard powers that be granted that fine human Corporal Stewart McLaughlin what he so richly earnt & deserves yet ? As his families plaque so rightly states & I'm glad it does, 'shamefully unrecognised', god bless him, may he not just be at peace, but having a great life in the next one, all of them I hope, the men & boys who had to go through that & lost their lives, & are waiting for their loved ones. To the living god bless you all, I hope, we all know you did a hell of a thing, I hope all know & appreciate that. Salute you Sir's. 👏🙏💪👌
A stokey in The Falklands 🙂
probably a argentine soldier still hiding there
I was too on this villa number 502! in august 2018
Hermanos ingleses, ojalá podamos vivir en paz y compartir de igual a igual las islas, sin olvidar la guerra, que fue horrible y política , sin odio ni rencores hacia las personas. Saludos cordiales. 🇦🇷🇬🇧
Englishmen, I hope we can live in peace and share the islands equally, without forgetting the war, which was horrible and political, without hatred or grudges towards people. Best regards. 🇦🇷🇬🇧
Saludos cordiales
Wont be sharing islands the falkland islanders its there home its a British overseas islands accept that
Solid fuel from argentinian navy
Seriously... people fought and died for this piece of land in the middle of nowhere? Politics...
Its British after all, it like saying we wont bother taking care of the Isle of Man because its in the middle of the sea. Thatcher in deciding to take the Falklands back was a massive turning point for the UK at the time despite what people thought of her.
Thanks a million for making this video showing Mount Longdon in its true glory @swordfishradio. Believe it or not I drew lots of inspiration from this video for my own film about the battle of Mount Longdon on my channel. This video really helped me visualise what my cinematography was going to be like for the film and helped me know what Mount Longdon actually looked like. Kudos to you sir
Hi Paddy, thanks for the nice comments, makes a change from the occasional drivel I get from bitter Argentines! Longdon is indeed a special place for those who fought there! The Falklands are indeed beautiful but very windy as you can hear. Good luck with your film.
@@swordfishradio You can buy a fluffy attachment (can't remember the proper name) that fits over your microphone and takes away 90% of the wind noise.
A fitting memorial to those who lost their lives at Goose Green. Let we forget.
Great to see all those plaques remembering the fallen. All seemed to be between 17& 27 years old. The plaques to Cpl McLaughlin are especially significant. His exploits on the night of the battle for Longdon are legendary, yet he received no medal for his valour. This man fully deserved a Victoria Cross.
Agreed, when I took my students around these sites, they were very humbled to see that some of these lads were the same age. It really did hit home!
Pity no sound but still lovely I remember being a bridesmaid in 78 for my aunt I was 10 at the time
Aye, good old handheld 8MM Cine and yes sound would of been great back then but way too expensive for my Father to commit to. He moved away from Cine around 1982 and we went full colour VHS video. Im lucky I managed to keep hold of these films as my late Father's new Wife wanted to throw them all away!
Stoke city....
Wow
ua-cam.com/video/eqS9GYyx-oo/v-deo.html hi....great upload.....i found this old cine film footage in my mums belongings after she passed away. It was filmed in malta in the 70s but i am unsure where exactly in malta......hhhmmmm Have a great day
Looks like St Pauls Bay to me but Malta has changed so much its difficult to tell. Cheers.
@@swordfishradio Thank you so much!
I'm working is cocoon resort
Im so intrigued. These brave young men whom’s lives, whether they died or survived battle, all made their mark to shape mankind. My life is insignificant by comparison. They upheld British honor and dignity, and returned the Falkland Islanders to British governance and safety.
